Eurocode calculations

Checks steel cross-sections and members to EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1993-1-5.

Status on 15 October 2026. Nothing is released yet. Eurocode calculations belongs to the Structural Suite.

What it does today

  • Cross-section resistance to EN 1993-1-1 6.2, including torsion to 6.2.7
  • Shear buckling of slender webs to EN 1993-1-5 section 5, longitudinal stiffeners (A.3) and hybrid webs (4.3(6))
  • Flexural buckling (6.3.1), lateral-torsional buckling with forks, restrained ends, cantilevers, intermediate restraints, restraints of one flange or of the twist and continuous restraints (6.3.2), and beam-columns to 6.3.3 by method 1 (Annex A) or method 2 (Annex B)
  • 1355 catalogue profiles, 257 of them rolled angles, 32 UPE and UPN channels and 11 elliptical hollow sections, with provisional values from published tables until the product standards are held, or rolled, welded, hollow and elliptical hollow sections, I sections whose flanges differ, rolled angles and rolled channels given by their dimensions
  • Rolled angles classified by Table 5.2 sheet 3, classes 1 and 2 leg by leg with the bending resistance of their plastic surface, their cross-sections under axial force and bending about the principal axes by 6.2.1(7), in shear by 6.2.6(4) and torsion by (6.1), as truss web members by BB.1.2, and in buckling, torsional-flexural included; class 4 angles and channels with their effective sections and the shift of their centroid
  • Rolled channels classified by Table 5.2, in shear on the channel shear area of 6.2.6(3)(b), in torsion by 6.2.7 at the stress points a channel has, and in flexural, torsional-flexural and lateral-torsional buckling
  • Elliptical hollow sections, class 4 ones with the elliptical effective section or the reduced strength of the SCI Blue Book
  • Stiffened plate girders with longitudinal stiffeners and troughs, their effective sections, shear lag and torsion to EN 1993-1-5, and high shear in every class, round and elliptical tubes on the sectors of their walls, with the reduced plate slenderness of 4.4(4) as a reading
  • Built-up members to 6.4: closely spaced, battened and laced members, four-sided lacings and nested chords, with their packs, battens, tie panels, lacing ends, nodes and joints
  • Members with plastic hinges over uniform, tapered and haunched pieces: the requirements of 5.6, and at each hinge the web stiffeners, the restraint and its forces of 6.3.5.2 and the stable segment on each side
  • Components by the general method of 6.3.4, with α_cr,op and α_ult,k given or found by the member's own buckling and second-order analysis, also with the shear stiffness of sheeting, and the critical mode given, for I and H sections, channels and angles
  • Steels above S460 up to S700 by EN 1993-1-12: the EN 10025-6 grades S500 to S690, and the thermomechanically rolled EN 10149-2 grades S500MC to S700MC in welded sections; plastic hinges in them are reported as not covered, since the part allows plastic zones only
  • The recommended values or the Finnish national annexes; a case the checks do not cover is reported as not covered instead of being guessed

How it is verified

Hand calculations to EN 1993-1-1 for an IPE 300 in bending and lateral-torsional buckling and an HE 200 B in flexural buckling. The underlying library is checked against the eurocodeapplied.com calculators and the SCI Blue Book.
